Biruh Workeneh, MD, FASN is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Nephrology. He is a board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is the inpatient Medical Director of dialysis services at MD Anderson. He holds appointments at other major hospitals in the Texas Medical Center, including Houston Methodist Hospital and Baylor St. Luke’s Hospital. His clinical experience includes directing several outpatient hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis units.
Moreover, he is also an accomplished researcher with over 25 peer-reviewed publications and 7 book chapters. He lectures medical trainees, including fellows, residents, and medical students. He is also involved in the community and volunteers regularly with the National Kidney Foundation, Global Initiative for Better Health and other organizations. He has a love for his native Ethiopia, and his goal with our organization is to establish a sustainable and enduring dialysis program at Black Lion Hospital.
